Angelite, also known as Anhydrite or Angel Stone, is a soft ice blue stone that can vary in light purple and blue hues with occasional flecks of white, brown or rust colors throughout.
HOW IS ANGELITE FORMED?
Angelite is formed when salt domes form what's called a cap rock. Cap rocks, which are part of the sandstone family, are considered the "outer crust" of a harder, more resistant type of rock. Cap rocks are typically composed of salt, topped by a layer of Angelite, topped by patches of Gypsum and eventually topped by a layer of Calcite. Angelite makes up 1-3% of the mineral content of the top of each salt dome and is found within deeper surfaces of the earth. When Angelite starts to come closer to the earths surface, it then starts to turn into Gypsum, by absorbing circulating ground water.
